Is body cell memory a myth or a reality yet to be known to science? When asked about what part of the body is responsible for pumping blood, the heart is mentioned. When asked about what part of the body is capable of storing information, the brain is mentioned. From what we were taught in secondary school, each organ is specialized and have their own unique function, although they all work together to achieve a goal.
What happens then, if a particular organ performs the function of another?
Something I Came Across…
I came across something recently, and that is going to be the main focus of this article. I quote “There are over seventy documented cases of transplant patients experiencing the same thoughts and feelings as their organ donors did in life. People report everything from craving their donors’ favourite foods, to inheriting their talents. It’s posed as a theory that the cells in our body can store memories”. This is a fascinating hypothesis, since I can’t say it’s a fact yet. To understand the whole point of this article, just imagine this scenario in your head, about a legendary musician asked to tell his life changing story at an event.
The Short Story
“Standing before you today, is a me I never imagined. While growing, I never thought I’d ever become a musician, not to talk of a legendary one. In fact, I knew nothing about music. How I became like this still remains a mystery to me. In my twenties, I was diagnosed as having a heart condition which required me getting a transplant. In the long run, I had the surgery, which changed my life forever”. “It all started when I went to a restaurant with my family. There, I ordered for some spaghetti, which was something I never liked since I believed it looked like worms. My siblings were surprised since they knew it was something I’d normally not eat, no matter how hungry I was. Even after that, I began eating it a lot that my family concluded it was my new favorite”.
Months after, I suddenly developed an unconditional love for playing the keyboard. That was after I struck the keys and started playing some notes, accidentally. Remember I mentioned earlier that I knew nothing about music. How I can play the keyboard so well now, remains a wonder..”
What are Your Thoughts?
Snap out of the story, guys and come back to reality. The story is just a fiction and nothing more, but do you think something like it is ever possible? Is body cell memory a myth to you or a reality? Is it logical to say that the cells of the heart stored information from the donor and transferred it to the man after the transplant? So far, I know of no means by which tissues other than the brain would be capable of storing memories. But do you think it is possible or can ever be possible? If yes, then there’s a lot more yet to get unraveled in the world of science.
What do you think?

It is easy to think cells could store memories since they possess DNA. That is, if the donor’s ability were as a result of genetics maybe the recipient could carry the gene.
The mystery is how the gene will interact with the recipient’s overall genotype to the level of expression.
May be the right question is how do transplanted organs fit their recipients in the first place?
I’m imagining a patient having different genotype following a transplant. The heart has a different genetic makeup and the rest of the body has another?
I’m very much interested in this discuss. I love it. Thank you
Thanks for the review
Wow! A topic that requires deep reasoning and research.
Fascinating!
I agree, thank you
There’s a recent study that says the heart has it’s “little brain” that contains about 40,000 neurons by Dr. Armour…
Just maybe if these said heart neurons develop ability to store some memories, then it might explain how some heart recipients have begin to have donors thoughts…
Maybe…
Interesting, I’ve not heard of that though.
I read about this one time after watching a movie, there’s an hypothesis that some organs in the body have *memory cells* and so following transplant, the recipient starts to act, think or speak like the donor, some might even have blurry visions of some parts of the donor’s life, kind of like remembering something that never happened to you…
Wow, really fascinating.
This is actually an interesting soon to be fact. All of our body has our genetic information in it so I think it is possible.
If eventually possible, it will go a long way in discovering even more unimaginable things in the scientific world.
What of the memory T-cell the keep memories of ailments that has afflicted the body in previous times
So there’s possibilities that there are also cells that keeps other information that makes up the person
Every cell has DNA which is specific to each individual
But I’m sure it still requires more research
Exactly!
It requires more research.
It’s easy to accept the reality of body cell memory as long as you’re in a medical world. And to support your view courageously! First of all, We have to know that Cells have memory. And this memory is durable – even if your conscious mind has forgotten something, your body remembers – down to the cellular level. Secondly Cellular memory is the idea that memories and personality traits can be stored in any individual cells or in other organs, not just in the brain. Speaking with the writer where he said “So far, I know of no means by which tissues other than the brain would be capable of storing memories”
Back to the heart. I’ll like everyone to look at the heart best on it’s usage. We first have the physical heart that we have in our bodies. The muscular organ located between our lungs in our chest that pumps blood through the blood vessel of our circulatory system. And Secondly, The metaphysical heart which has direct relationship to that physical heart and it’s the very essence of man. It connects it’s body and his mind, soul and it’s this heart that really understand and perceived things. But very unfortunate today science and many Doctors and philosophers have said that, the intellect is located in the brain. And so we think and understand with our brain and not with our heart. “But I can say this courageously that the center for intellect is the heart”
Best on the little knowledge I have, and the teaching of my scholars I can say, the intellect is located in the heart, the heart is in the chest of course but the brain perceives, it receives information and visualizes it, then it sent this visualization back to the heart to see what it will command, then the commands are sent from heart back to the brain and then the brain executes! And I think this view is reassuring to the soul and it also consistent to reality!
This really explains a lot, and at the same time it is comprehensive and convincing.
And like you said, the view is reassuring to the soul and consistent to reality.
Thank you.
