The point where the visual axis of the cornea and lens meets the retina of the eye is the FOVEA.
The FOVEA is the area of greatest visual acuity in the eye i.e greatest visual discrimination. It is a conical depression in the retina made up of strictly cones, a photoreceptor similar in basic structure to the rods but differs in several details such as visual pigments, type of vision, etc.
The FOVEA region of the retina is subject to the least refractory distortion and are modified to obtain maximum photoreceptor sensitivity because of the one to one relationship with the optic tract neurons.
The one to one relationship of the optic tract neurons with the FOVEA ensures individual photoreceptor representation at the visual cortex thus give a sharp and clear vision.
